IBM Hursley, a research and development laboratory belonging to IBM, has been associated with Hursley Park in Hampshire in some form since the 1950s. From working within Hursley House itself, IBM has gone on to purchase land and develop an office complex used for testing, development and executive briefings.

From 2016 to 2018, Syscom were engaged to carry out a site-wide BMS upgrade of Hursley Park, including IBM Head Office and Development Centre with Data Centre and Critical Building Services Equipment, works valued at £1.2 million.

Existing Johnson Controls, Robert Shaw and Siemens equipment was upgraded to the open network Tridium Niagara N4 platform, allowing IBM Hursley to take full advantage of the Internet of Things. This involved the upgrade of 27 control panels, 7 Cooling towers, Chillers and 490 FCUs/VAVs/CAVs.

As an added challenge, the upgrade of all controls equipment had to be carried out while maintaining full operability of all
plant and services to a fully occupied establishment with critical Data Centre infrastructure.
